Troubleshooting Voice Recognition

If the app is struggling to hear or understand you, please try these steps in order:

2. Speak Naturally: You don’t need to shout! A clear, steady speaking voice works best. Shouting can actually distort the audio and make it harder for the app to understand you.
3. Wait for the Green Bar: Only speak when the green microphone bar is visible. The app does not listen while it is speaking to you.
4. Aim for the Microphone: Speak clearly towards the bottom of your phone. Ensure your fingers or phone case are not covering the small microphone holes.
5. Clean Your Microphone: Dust and lint often clog the holes. Gently clean them with a dry, soft toothbrush. This is a very common fix for hardware issues!
6. Enable "Dictation" (iOS): Go to Settings → General → Keyboard and ensure Enable Dictation is ON. This ensures your phone has the latest language models downloaded for better accuracy.
7. Reduce Background Noise: High fans, loud music, or open windows can interfere. Try to keep the cabin relatively quiet when answering.
8. Check Permissions: Ensure the app has microphone access in Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.
9. Car Systems & Equipment: When connected via Bluetooth, the app uses your car's built-in microphone. Make sure it isn't obstructed (usually located near the rearview mirror). For very noisy rides, using a headset or AirPods can often provide even better results as the microphone is closer to your mouth.
